Well today I started my own website. This is all new to me so please be patient as I learn.
I've been asked a lot if I had my own website and I had to keep saying no. So I decided now was the time to get one.
I love to work with my hands and create. I have been creating for as long as I can remember. It started as a small child and has progressed (a LOT) over the years.
I learned to do bead work when i was pregnant with my son (many moons ago) and have learned a lot. I also learned to quilt at that time. The lady that taught me how to make my very first quilt would not let me use a machine. She said to me, "You are having a child and you need to learn patience, so you will make your first quilt by hand. No machines involved." Well she was correct, it most definitely taught me patience.
Another lady taught me to crochet and I made my first crocheted afghan when my son was 2 years old. I made quite a few afghans (just your basic large granny square) over the years. Then in 2012, I started making amigurumi toys. My very first piece was a frog and I have been addicted ever since.
Leather work, wow, what can I say? Love the look of it, the feel of it, the smell of it. I know the basics of leather work. I taught my son what was taught to me and he has taken off with it. He has far surpassed my skill of leather work.
Copper work just jumped out at me one day when I seen a chainmaille bracelet. I got a few books, a few tools, including safety glasses and thin leather gloves, and jumped right in. Oh don't forget the wire. LOL! I learned how to create my own jumprings for chainmaille, how to twist, bend, cut, shape, etc all different kinds of things. I started wrapping stones, marbles, coins, etc. The sky is the limit with wire. Then one day, I seen a wire tree and thought hmmm i can do that. So I did.
Wood work, now that is all about the guys. They love working with different materials. Their favorite is osage orange though. It is a tough, hard wood, but very beautiful in color. It is an orange color and as it ages it just gets darker. They make all sorts of things, ie: spoons, noggins (cups), spatulas, slingshots/catapults and anything else they can think of.
Knife work, once again that is all about the guys. My son is a custom knifemaker, designer, and refurbisher. He has his own website at www.muskratmanknives.com you can check his work out there if you are interested.
